The short answer: Kerry Airport is in Farranfore, about 13km from Killarney and 15km from Tralee. It is a small, single-level terminal, security is usually over in a few minutes, and there are only a few flights, so book early for summer and bank holidays.
We could not confirm Kerry’s current liquids rule, so check the airport website before you pack.
Kerry is one of the smallest airports in the country, which has its own charm. You won’t be lost, you won’t be late because of a queue, and you’ll probably know somebody on the flight, who’ll know your mother.
Security and arriving
Allow about two hours in peak summer, especially July and August. Security often takes only a few minutes, and the walk from the entrance to the gate is short, but a small airport has few staff and one slow moment can hold everyone up.
Liquids: in September 2024 Kerry Airport’s rule was containers of 100ml or less, with larger ones refused unless they were baby food or milk, medicines or special dietary products. The airport said it expected to allow larger containers again. We could not find a confirmed update, so check the Kerry Airport website before you pack, and pack for the stricter rule if you are unsure.
Getting there
- By car: the airport is about 15 to 20 minutes from Killarney or Tralee, via the N22 and N23. The short-term and long-term car parks are right outside the terminal. Book online before you go.
- By bus: Bus Éireann runs services to Killarney, Tralee and Limerick. The timetable does not always match flight times, so check it for your day before you rely on it.
- Taxis: they wait outside the terminal. Pre-book for early flights.
- Car hire: the desks are in the long-term car park, about a minute’s walk from the terminal.
With only a few flights there’s no “sure there’ll be another one at four”. Book it early and put it in the diary.
Fog and wind
Fog or strong winds can delay or divert flights. Check your flight on the airline’s app before you leave home.
Where you can fly to
There are only a few routes, so book early. This site covers Alicante and Faro and the Algarve from Kerry. For anywhere else, see the flight search, which includes connections.
Seven things nobody tells you
- With few flights, a cancelled one is a bigger problem than at Dublin. Book flexible if you can.
- Check the bus timetable for your own day, not the general one.
- Take a photo of where you parked.
- Fill a water bottle after security.
- Check the weather the night before an early flight.
- Bring a power bank. The sockets near the gates are a contact sport.
- Pack for the stricter liquids rule until you’ve checked. Better a bit annoyed than a bottle lighter.
Checked 26 October 2026. Location, parking and bus details are from airport guides published in September 2025, and we could not confirm Kerry’s current liquids rule. They do change, so check the Kerry Airport website before you go.
