What Sibiu is actually like
A handsome Saxon town in the heart of Transylvania, with pastel squares, church spires and roofs whose little windows look like watching eyes. Its Christmas market in the Large Square is one of the prettiest in Europe. In summer, it is the base for the Transfăgărășan mountain road and the fortified churches.

What nobody tells you about Sibiu
- There is no direct flight from Ireland at the moment. Fly to Cluj or Bucharest and continue by road or train: Cluj is about three hours by car, Bucharest about four.
- Romania uses lei, not euro. Cards are widely taken.
- Combine it with Brașov and Bran Castle for a Transylvania road trip.
