What Basel is actually like
A compact city on the Rhine where Switzerland, France and Germany meet. It has a pretty old town, more museums than a city this size should have and a river that locals float down in summer. The airport sits just across the border in France.
Who Basel suits
- Art and museum fans
- Couples after a tidy, easy city break
- People heading on to the Black Forest, Alsace or the Swiss Alps
Best time to go to Basel from Ireland
May to September for warm days and the river. Late November to December for the Christmas market. Art Basel in June pushes prices up.
