The short answer: Cork still uses the old liquids rule. Containers of 100ml or less, all in one clear resealable bag, and laptops and tablets out in a tray. New scanners are planned for around Christmas 2026, so check before you go.
Two hours before a short-haul flight is the usual advice, and three before long-haul. It is a single terminal, so there is no wrong one to end up in.
Cork is the airport that lets you feel clever. It’s small, it’s quick and the car park isn’t a county away from the door. It’s also the airport where the lad in front still has to take his laptop out, so here’s how to do it right.
Security: the rules today
Cork Airport’s own security page says:
- Liquids, gels, aerosols and pastes must be in containers of 100ml or less, all together in one clear resealable bag of about 20cm x 20cm. Keep the bag out of your other baggage and put it in the tray.
- Water counts. A bottle over 100ml is not allowed through, even if it is half empty.
- Laptops, iPads and Kindles come out of the bag and go in a tray.
- Keys, coins and phones can stay in your hand luggage, or go in a coat pocket and the coat in the tray. Keeping them on you sets off the arch and slows everyone down.
- Duty-free bought after security is sealed in a tamper-evident bag. Keep the receipt in the bag.
Cork has said new scanners are coming, with the new security area expected to be finished by Christmas 2026. When they are in, liquids and laptops should be able to stay in the bag, as they now do in Dublin and Shannon. Until the airport says so, pack for the old rules.
Have the liquids in the clear bag the night before, love. Not at the tray with a queue tutting behind you.
Getting there
- The terminal: one terminal on two levels. Check-in is on the ground floor and security and the gates are upstairs.
- By car: the N27 takes you there, usually 15 to 25 minutes from the city. There are short-stay and long-stay car parks. Book online before you go, it is cheaper than turning up at the barrier.
- Pick-ups: there is a free 30-minute waiting area, so your lift does not have to circle.
- By bus: Bus Éireann’s 226 and the Skylink airport express run between the airport and the city. Check the first departure the evening before an early flight, not on the morning.
- Taxis: they wait outside the terminal at all hours. For an early flight, book one the night before.
When the fog comes in
Cork is the airport people mention when they say “it was diverted”. Fog and low cloud can delay flights or send them to Shannon or Dublin. If the forecast is poor, check your flight on the airline’s app before you leave the house, not in the car park.
Where you can fly to
The sun routes from Cork on this site include Majorca, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Malaga and Faro and the Algarve, and Naples and Prague if you want a city break. See where is actually warm in February from Cork too.
Seven things nobody tells you
- Liquids in the clear bag the night before. Not at the tray, with a queue tutting behind you.
- Take a photo of where you parked. Future you, tanned and tired, won’t remember.
- Summer mornings are busy. Small airport doesn’t mean no queue, whatever your cousin told you.
- Fill a water bottle after security instead of paying airport prices for water.
- Check the fog forecast the night before an early flight. It’ll do what it likes.
- Wear the shoes you can take off with one hand.
- Text home from the gate. Somebody is waiting to hear you got there, and she won’t say it.
Security rules checked against Cork Airport’s own page on 26 October 2026. Parking, bus and layout details are from airport guides published in September 2025. They do change, so check the Cork Airport website before you go.
